This is just my personal musings, ramblings and reviews of whatever interesting beers I try. I'm not on any schedule, I'm not a professional beer reviewer. I'm just a snob with a minute beer budget and my own set of tastes, and I'll let people know what I've found.

Short beer review: Wolaver's Oatmeal Stout
I decided to try another oatmeal stout. This one doesn't have quite the depth of flavor of the last, but its just as good IMO. Has a hint of bitterness to it, but once again not too much and the rest of the flavor balances it out well. Goes down smooth. I like this one.

Corsendonk Christmas Ale
This has a fairly high alcohol content, so after breathing in paint and glue fumes for an hour or so while working on something then drinking this, I'm starting to feel a little bit of a buzz.
The beer itself is fairly unremarkable. Dark, but not remarkably so. Bit of that weird caramel malt taste to it. It goes down fairly smooth, but for some reason its got a slightly cheap flavor to it. I'm not sure how to describe it. Its one of those that's not bad, but just not to my palate, I think.
I bought a little bottle today to try it out and see if it'd be worth buying the big bottle to bring to my brother's place for Christmas. Its good, but I can think of better things to bring so I don't think I'll get the big bottle.

Belfast Bay - McGovern's Oatmeal Stout
A very dark beer, not sweet at all. Slight bitter aftertaste, but its very slight and its smooth enough that it's a pleasant bitterness. I seem to be using the word 'smooth' to describe a lot of the beers I'm trying, but I think that's just because I LIKE smooth beers, so that's the first thing I look for. :)
It doesn't say what the alcohol content is, but I don't think its particularly high. But I like the flavor and I like the hint of an almost molasses-ish darkness in the taste.

Short review: Fort Collins Brewery's Retro Red
Since I liked their Chocolate Stout so damn much, I decided to try another of their brews. Most of the time I find reds to be a little bland, but this one is just fine. I'm starting to like this brewery. :)

Young's Double Chocolate Stout
Had a test today in my last class, which meant that I got out about 6:30 instead of 7. Just in time to make it to Beers of the World before it closed. :)
This one has a bit more oomph to it than the last one. The smell of it is a lot stronger than the last one. This one smells DARK. Like an oatmeal stout or something. And it may be even smoother than the last one I reviewed as well.
Not much flavor in the initial sips, but there was an immediate aftertaste of chocolate. I think this one has actual cocoa in it, rather than just using the chocolate malt for its flavor. Only 5.2% alcohol, a little lighter in that department than most of the beers I like. But it comes in a 1 pint bottle, so there's a bit more to enjoy. I'm definitely enjoying this one.

Got stuck behind a train crossing today...
... and I happened to be a few feet away from the entrance to the parking lot where Beers of the World is.
So rather than sit and waste gas, I figured I'd take advantage of the stop and try a new beer or two. So I've got a bottle of a chocolate stout from a company I've never heard of in front of me. Fort Collins Brewery Chocolate Stout. They also make a double chocolate stout, which is why I don't have a picture to link to here. Those were the only pictures I could find with a google search. :P Its been in the fridge since this afternoon, so I'm going to pop it open before I go to bed tonight.
It has a VERY pleasant scent. Mild beer scent with strong chocolate overtones. First few sips, it seems to be one of the smoothest beers I've had in quite some time. Fairly mild flavor, but hoppy aftertaste. The chocolate smell combined with the hoppy aftertaste makes for a very interesting drink. I think I may buy this one again.
